These halachos are based on the rulings of Mishna Berura (MB), reflecting Ashkenazi practice.
–
- If a Bris Milah falls on Tisha B’av, it is held after Kinnos (SA 559:7)
Shabbos Clothes
- Bris Milah: After kinnos, the father, mother, mohel and sandak may change into Shabbos clothes, but not shoes, and they then remove them after the Bris (R 559:8, MB 34).
- They should not, however, wear Shabbos clothes which are new (MB 559:33)
- Pidyon Haben: At a pidyon haben, the mother, father and kohen may wear Shabbos Clothes (PT 559:10)
Candles, Besamim
- Candles may be lit for the Bris Mila held on Tisha B’Av, though besamim should not be brought (SA 559:7, MB 15)
Drinking the Wine at a Bris
- The poskim debate whether the mother (who is not fasting due to being within 30 days of childbirth) or a child (above the age of chinuch, but below the age of chinuch on mourning the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash – see definition of these in our discussion by Havdala in the 9 days) should drink the wine at a Bris – consult a Rav for guidance (SA 559:7, Dirshu 28-29)
Bris Milah and Pidyon HaBen on Tisha B’Av Nidche (postponed Tisha B’Av)
- Bris Milah: Tisha B’Av falls on Shabbos and is postponed to Sunday and a Bris is held on Sunday, the father, mother (though she will normally be eating anyway due to being within 30 days of childbirth) mohel and sandek should daven mincha gedola (ie from 6.5 halachic hours through the day) and thereafter they may eat and wash, though they should refrain from having a large seudah until Motzei Tisha B’av.
- They must say havdala before eating – see how this is done in the section ‘Tisha B’Av that falls on Shabbos or Sunday’ (SA 559:9, MB 36, 37, SHT 37)
- Pidyon haben: Some also say that the same applies to the father, mother and kohen if a Pidyon HaBen (only one which is held on time [on the 31st day of the boy’s life] as it should be) falls on Tisha B’av nidche. (MB 559:38, PT 10).
